Club Committee

President - Bronwyn Jennings

I first joined Vision in November 2011, wanting to tick off one of the items on my "list of things to do" in finishing an Olympic Distance Triathlon. From completing Mooloolaba in March 11, I'm now competing in regular events and have my goals set towards the Age Group World Championships in New Zealand 2012

Triathlon has given me many things - fitness, the ability to set goals, the oomph to push myself, and to remember to always support those around you. More than anything it's taught me to believe in myself and that I am far stronger than i ever thought possible. I began training only really able to run, and my riding has come along in leaps and bounds. From barely swimming 50m without gasping for air, to doing a 300m warm up without thinking twice, the benefits you get from triathlon are just enormous!

Vision is a group of people who are all working to their own individual goals - sprint, olympic, half ironman, ironman or just health and fitness. We do it however as a group, as a pack, always supporting and encouraging each other. We have the full range abilities at the club, from the amazing elites, age groupers or those (like myself) who just want to be a bit faster, stronger and fitter than what we were yesterday. I strongly believe that every athlete at the club is special, and brings their own unique knowledge and experience to the club.

I won't lie, it's not always easy. Long sessions are long, the mornings can be cold, the rain is well... wet! But I promise you, come train with us, and as you cross the finish line on whatever event it is you're competing in, it will be worth it and you will be thinking about the next race you can enter!

Please feel free to contact myself, or any members of the committee with questions or enquiries.

Vice President - Greg Thirkill

After being found.... splashing around in a 25m pool by Coach Cath, she encouraged me to come along to some triathlon sessions (I think to make me feel better that I could run and ride so to ‘forget’ the swim!!!) but perserverance, dedication and pure hard work like Bronnie (Persident) has mentioned I am now swimming in olympic distances races and getting ready for Goodi (2km SWIM!!!).

The club has offered a motivational sounding board for my weight loss and swimming projects in life.  I can successfully tick these off my list and look forward to racing hard, building on the friendships in the club and being there to watch the new comers see and feel the difference that this club, sport and coach can make to their life.

My whole family is now involved in either the junior development squad, adult squad and paper program options and we would sometime like to throttle the coach but we know she has her heart and soul into getting us all to succeed and fulfill our personal best.

Club Treasurer - Nat McKay

Training with Vision since March 2008. First Olympic distance – March 2009 (now to improve my time!)

Vision Tri Club has now become the honeymoon destination for my husband and I. Completing my first Olympic triathlon in March 2009 has spurred me on to start riding my bum off. Coach Cath has made excellent gains with my swim technique…so she keeps telling me…now its onto the bike. My role within the club apart from being an athlete is now club treasurer. Any questions in relation to fees, memberships, club financials etc can be directed my way….I am an accountant in my spare time :)

Club Secretary - Juanita Chaffey

I have been a member of Vision since January 2009, and joined the squad gradually. Being a complete novice to the sport I thought I could write a program and train by myself in the lead up to my first Olympic tri at Mooloolaba in 2009. I started swimming with coach Cath thinking “how hard is it to run and cycle by yourself”? I soon realised that it was in my best interest to have a coach and supportive club behind me in all three disciplines.

So now Vision is my second home and the club my second family. Coach Cath has supported me through 8 Olympic distance tris, numerous sprints, and a half ironman. My next major goals are to PB at Mooloolaba in 2012 and smash my previous time at Hell of the West in 2013.

In my other life I am a nurse educator, teaching and supporting nurses who care for people affected by cancer.

My passion for teaching and nurturing also come in handy at Vision, as my goal and role in the club is to ensure that everyone has fun at training and that new members feel welcome.

I think Triathlon is the best sport around. Being part of Vision means that you get all the support, encouragement and camaraderie that you would get in a team sport, but your performance doesn’t affect anyone else. The best of both worlds!

So come and join us at Vision and we will get you started in this fabulous sport and club

Vision tri Club Committee representative Michael Sanguineti

Being a member of Vision Tri Club's elected committee is an admirable role that gives me an opportunity to share in the development and growth of Brisbane's best Triathlon Club.

I was fortunate to join this club several years ago and have never looked back. I have been able to overcome personal fitness challenges through technique, development, self belief and great coaching. I have also witnessed over time club athletes rise from nervous novices to race ready, confident and competitive right through some now racing elite, open age and several this year racing Nationally and being selected into the 2011 Australian age group world championship team that competed in Beijing.
