Indomitable Spirit

Self discovery is really what triathlon is about.  At some point you hit a bump in the road.  That may be mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, spiritually.  What are examples of bumps?

  1. Mental obstacles that test your patience…or lack there off due to frustration at your inability to master something NOW or at repeating endless repetitions of a skill/set; Physical limits in your strength, endurance, speed, flexibility or coordination/skill development;
  2. A nagging injury that forces you to slow down, modify your technique or ‘miss a training’ session;
  3. Emotional forces like stress from uni, work, relationships(or lack of one!!),  other athletes telling you what should be done in your training schedule…even though they aren’t the qualified coach and may only be going on knowledge based on their own body, lifestyle and internet reading.
  4. Financial budgets that can dictate what you can and can’t do…..where does my training fit in you say?
  5. Spiritually: do you have the confidence and self worth to understand that you can do; must do and will do, to be a better version of ones self; do you set your own limitations and inhibit your own potential?

Indomitable spirit is your inner strength and commitment.  It is the confidence and winning attitude to continue even if you’re in last spot, you’re tired, had a flat tyre, or have just run out of fuel. It comes down to your perseverance and dedication to never quit.  Therefore you will never fail right???

An athlete with perseverance and indomitable spirit will reach greater potential then your performance will ever show.  Performance outcome can be seen by your time on the clock but in reality it is HOW you crossed the line that is important.

There will always be disappointments in training and in your races, just relax, look at them in a humble manner, learn and trust the process of your training.

Respect your limits

Rest if you must

Hold onto your Goals

Preserve and Endure, Grow and Learn

The minute you want to quit is the exact time you will learn something about yourself.
