How far have you come? As members embarked on a race week end at the Splash’4’Cash Aqua-thon and the Nundah Duathlon it became evident at how hungry for greatness Vision Tri Club athletes are. We do have a good laugh at training, we enjoy the company around us but once you see the results later in the newsletter you should realise that consistent hard training pays off. From a coach perspective I would like athletes to realise that more isn’t always better. Running yourself into the ground isn’t the answer to results. I am speaking mainly towards Olympic distance racing but even half ironman training shouldn’t be that ‘stressful’ that you lose sight on what is around you.

Family, friends, good food, social life etc. For one week just train in the moment. Just put all your efforts into that single one training session. Don’t hold back in fear that you won’t get to the next session. Cross that bridge then. If you hold back then you will never know what it feels like to achieve greatness. If you don’t do that in training how will you know if you have reached your goal on race day?

I can mention 3 athletes who over the last 3 months have realised that 3 and 4 sessions a day isn’t the answer to results. Having structure and resting well is. Almost like a catch 22 isn’t it… We want to train and keep training so we can be the best but I am sure you have all started to see, especially if you trained consistently over winter that the training changes to produce the desired results for you. This time last year we weren’t running 16 to 20 km off the bike or doing a personal best over a 10km run circuit that is only to mention a small success!!! Until next time…congratulations athletes.
