I was already being coached by Cath Rogers, and she suggested I come along to Vision squad sessions. Glad I did, great group of people.
The mixture of the three sports keeps me entertained. I love being outdoors, and I am not confined to training in certain places, I can run / cycle / swim wherever I want, whenever I want, with whoever I want.
So far, Half Ironman is my favourite. I also like the speed of the Sprint Distance.
I haven’t really had any really tough races, but there have been some tough sections. The last lap of the bike in the gold coast half ironman struggling into the headwind....having to be rescued by a canoe in the freezing cold swim in New Zealand... cramps and sore knee in the Mooloolaba run leg... getting stress fractures in my foot while running half marathon and a jellyfish sting in the Busselton Half Ironman swim...
Definitely the bike leg... I also enjoy the mass starts of the swim where you have to fight for your space in the water, really gets the adrenaline going.
Never give up.
Running into transition and having absolutely NO idea where I left my bike.... Putting my bike helmet on over the top of my swimming cap... doing a run and jump onto the bike, wobble, crash into the kerb..... losing a shoe.... running out of transition without my race number.... running out of the wrong exit in transition.... pouring gatorade over my head thinking it was water... hopefully the list stops there - I always learn the hard way!
The Busselton bike Half Ironman course is amazing, such a smooth fast course... all you can hear is the speed of your wheels on the tarmac. I love fishies! out at the Port of Brisbane, 20km FAST loop great for time trials. Another recent favourite is the Mt Tomewin in the Gold Coast hinterland, ascent of 600m, followed by the best downhill I have ever done.
Maybe world champs 2010...
5 hours 30 mins in Busselton Half Ironman. 6th in agegroup at Sprint distance.
I have been ranked 2nd in the country in Badminton women’s doubles and also selected for the national team training squad. I played netball for my county for about 3 years, and was selected for national team trials.
Our Coach Cath Rogers, because she is tough and a bit nuts. Dean Karnazes (the UltraMarathon Man) is awesome because he can eat things like whole pizzas and cheesecakes at the same time as running distances like 100 miles.
