| I was at the QUT pool trying to improve my swimming endurance and had never swum further that 100 metres. I had entered myself into a Raby Bay race and needed to swim 400 metres. Vision Tri squad was doing power hour at the pool and I got to chat to one of the guys training and was introduced to Coach Cath. I am a reserved person but was drawn to the group immediately and was made to be feel part of their Club. My club mates are now amongst my closest friends. | |
| I blame my good friend Vanessa. I was approached by Ness to teach her to ride a bike as she wanted to compete in a triathlon. Ness could not cycle at all, was not a runner or a swimmer but was so determined to have a go. Ness drew inspiration from my cycling/running ability and I drew inspiration from Vanessa crossing the finish line, that’s how I got started. | |
| I have limited tri racing experience but am aiming to make Olympic distance my goal. | |
| My first Raby Bay tri was my toughest but most memorable I just froze and stopped at the 200 metre swim turn absolutely petrified but I was far too embarrassed to pull out or be rescued so just soldiered on to the finish. Once I got there, I wanted to go around the whole course again. | |
| My love is the bike and it's been a life long addiction whether it’s racing, training on a cold winter morning, heading off to ride Mt Coot-tha, Saturday rides with coffee, commuting to work or riding to the shops, the buzz has never worn off. To answer the question, the run is the prefered leg because it is just plain tough. Running requires dedication to consistant training, good cardio, power to weight, mental and physical toughness with little technique compared to what is required to make a good swimmer or rider. On the bike there can be an unfair advantage for those that can afford the best light weight carbon bikes and wheels. Running puts us all on a level playing field. | |
| Spending too much time in transition searching for my bike, seconds lost seem like minutes in transition. | |
| To simply be fit at 50. More recently I have made a further commitment to compete in Olympic distance triathlons in 2010. | |
| Nothing to date in triathlon but do inspire to one day place in top 3 for age in a race. It may take a while but I am in for the long haul.
My personal best sporting results to date out side of triathlon are limited but proud of the following- Selected to represent ACT in 1982 as part of a 4 man pursuit team competing at the National Velodrome Armature Cycling Titles held in Victoria. In 2006 I ran a personal best time of 18:37 for a 5 K race at age 45 in the QLD Corporate Games. I was awarded 2nd in age category 40-50. |
|
| I draw inspiration from all athletes and believe there are no boundaries between age or gender. I do inspire to be a quick as some of our girls. When I am around athletes starting off it reminds me where I have come from and when they progressively improve I am inspired and reminded that that I am still capable of gains and same for those with greater ability .I am inspired to go that bit harder especially when they are not too far out side your own capabilities. | |
